Job Summary:  Requirements: Any combination of coursework, experience and / or training which provides skills necessary to perform job duties. Have computer skills. Pass criminal background check and drug screening. Have and maintain valid driver license, employer to approve driving record. Pass post offer medical and audiological examination.

Preference: Experience in human service setting, including coursework in psychology, social work or a related field, residential youth care experience, certification of basic residential child care, workshops or other relevant training.

Also, applications will be evaluated based on: Knowledge of juvenile behavior and human relations; ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; give practical advice and guidance to juveniles; gain confidence of the juveniles; lead and direct work and recreational activities; apply program requirements and procedures to day to day activities; maintain order, discipline and safety; maintain progress reports and charts using a computer; keyboarding; transport juveniles; courteously meet and deal effectively with employees, juveniles and their families, agencies and the public.

Job Duties: Perform duties in supervising groups and individuals and other support services of juveniles in a detention / shelter facility. Responsible for maintaining order, discipline, safety, and protection of the emotional and physical well being of clients. Oversee juveniles to ensure physical needs are met and that the facility is secure and order is maintained; provide on-line supervision of juvenile clients under the supervision of higher classifications; give practical advice or guidance to juveniles and keep other staff informed of such; document activities and observations using a computer; prepare incident reports; consult with co-workers regarding clients; instructs, supervises and participates with residents in daily work or recreational activities; assist other staff in providing and documenting activities; anticipates hostile behavior of juveniles and resolves conflicts; report to shift leader; assist in crisis intervention; instruct juveniles on rules and procedures; check for illness or injury; distributes meals, clothing and bedding as needed and assists with other necessities; discipline firmly and fairly; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; provide coverage due to staff absence or additional requirements; transports juveniles as needed.
Work requires participating in work and recreational activities with the clients; restrain hostile youth requiring bending, climbing stairs, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation, keyboarding, carrying up to 60 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, running and walking.

Wage: $11.55 per hour plus pro rated benefits.
