Job Summary:  REQUIREMENTS:
* A Master's degree (or higher) in English or related field
* Coursework in reading instruction, critical thinking, instructional theory / practice, adult literacy development, brain-based learning or other courses that prepare you to teach reading and study skills
* Experience teaching reading and / or study skills
* Experience working with a diverse population, such as non-native English speakers, people with various learning styles and disabilities, students from poverty, and first-generation college students
* Experience in developing strategies that foster critical thinking and reading

JOB DUTIES:
* Instruct students in a classroom, lab, learning center or other setting as appropriate.
* Provide opportunities for student contact before or after class or through telephone or email exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
* Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devises as appropriate; incorporate the latest classroom technology into instructional activities.
* Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepare clear objectives for students each course.
* Maintain and revise curriculum to maintain currency.
* Understand, develop, and provide a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity in the workplace.
* Be responsible for classroom, laboratory and departmental equipment and provide for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
* Understand and abide by college policies and regulations, including textbook selection and replacement.
* Convene classes on time and regularly as scheduled.
* Maintain evaluation and grading records for assigned students; return grades on time.
* Ensure and emphasize safe working and classroom conditions and practices.
* Maintain current licenses or certificates in areas of expertise as required.
* Attend in-service sessions and division meetings as required.
* May direct aides and work-study students as assigned.
* Perform all other related duties as assigned.

HOURS: Vary; morning, afternoon, and evening sections may be available.
